Artemis Montague is a Producer, Musical Theatre Writer as well as the creator of this blog, “Reflections of a Life Renewed”, an intersectional leftist-feminist sociological exploration of life, philosophy politics, accountable spaces, and art.
Background
Having received an undergraduate degree in Women’s and Gender Studies, they have dedicated much of their time to arts advocacy and social justice. Their musicals concern topics such as the mental health industrial complex; the struggle of wanting to survive late-stage capitalism vs. making art; and the revolutionary nature of radical self-love and community.
Musical Theatre
As a Musical Theatre Writer, they first wrote She Sings Me Home, their first of three Black-, trans-, and queer-led musical stories, which was part of the now-defunct Page to Stage Festival at the Kennedy Center in November 2020. The musical then had a successful concert at NYC’s own The Green Room 42 on February 6, 2023, as well as a full workshop at Round House Theatre in Bethesda, MD as part of their 2nd Annual National Capital New Play Festival from May 1-6, 2023. It was awarded a 2024 MAP Fund Grant and had a developmental reading on February 3, 2025 at Caveat in NYC. Their first Joe’s Pub concert as a musical theatre writer is on July 29, 2026 at 7pm in NYC. The concert _ PLAY LIST FOR THE LIBERATED SOUL: THE MUSIC OF ARTEMIS MONTAGUE – will showcase their independent music as well as music from their 3 musicals:
- She Sings Me Home
- How Baby and the Ancestors Started a Revolution
- Rhapsody in Sunflower Yellow
Montague was honored with a National Disability Theatre Grant in 2023 and a MacDowell Artist residency – where they wrote the initial draft of How Baby and the Ancestors Started a Revolution in 2024. They were a participating Lyricist in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop as well in 2022.
